Office Visits

Your first visit is all about your child's comfort, happiness, and health

Our practice is committed to providing you and your family with safe, gentle, high-quality dental care. We understand that some children may feel anxious about visiting the dentist and we aim to be sensitive to the specific needs of each of our patients.

During your child’s visit, we will:

  • Answer any questions or concerns
  • Review the dental and medical history
  • Assess growth and development
  • Look for cavities or any other signs of tooth decay
  • Inspect the teeth and gums for gingivitis and signs of periodontal disease
  • Check for any problems that may not be seen or felt
  • Discuss an individiualize prevention plan for your child
  • Complete a dental cleaning
  • If indicated, take dental X-rays

Please bring your smile, but also don't forget:

  • Your completed patient information form
  • Your insurance card
  • Please have any X-rays from previous dental homes sent to xrays@happykidssmiles.com

Regular checkups are an important part of maintaining a healthy smile!

The American Dental Association recommends that children visit the dentist every six months for regular checkups and routine teeth cleanings to keep the teeth and gums healthy.

How long does a dental visit typically take?

We understand that your family has a busy schedule, so when you’re preparing for a dental visit, please remember that a cleaning appointment can last between 30 and 40 minutes.  An dental treatment appointment, such as a filling appointment, is typically scheduled for 60 minutes.

Can I be with my child during his or her dental visit?

We love having our parents involved in our dental care!  We have always invited parents back with their children for all cleaning, exams, and dental treatment appointments.

How have dental visits changed during COVID-19?

In effort to keep our patients, families, and team members safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made several changes to our Winston-Salem and Kernersville office procedures.

  • Our clinical team members will wear a mask at all times, in addition to a surgical cap, surgical gown, and face shield.
    • Click here to view a video of our new "superhero" outfits
  • Our parking lot is our new reception area!
    • We ask parents to text our office to check-in when they arrive at our office.  Families are then screened for COVID before entering the buiilding
    • Parents and patients are instructed to wear a mask when entering the building.  Exceptions are made for new patients and children who are nervous, anxious, or have special healthcare needs.
    • For parents of school-aged children, we kindly request that parents remain in their car during the appointment.
    • We will have one of our business team members call you at the end of the visit to check-out and schedule your child's next visit.

Always clean and has a great play area for kids

"I love this office!  It's always clean and has a great play area for the kids.  Everyone is very patient with my typical 3 year old son.   I highly recommend this office, doctors, and staff!"

Kid-friendly waiting room with little clubhouse, books, and toys

“Went with my two-year-old today for her first dental visit. It was actually fun for both of us! The waiting room was kid friendly with little clubhouse with great books and toys. The front desk staff was really nice and helpful. The whole practice has a special way with kids. Within a few moments, my daughter was laying on the table under the light with her mouth open. She even let them use a dental tool to check her teeth. I was impressed with their knowledge and we will definitely go back!”
